That’s a wrap for 2018 – By Stephen Cain
A big thanks to all the coaches this year and to those parents who were there supporting. Most training sessions saw great numbers, averaging in the high 40’s and interest across all event areas. Several sessions also included specific sprint training for relay teams and we wish all those competing this week the very best of luck and we are sure you will all have a great time!!
There were two sessions this year where attendance was low (due to weather and halloween) where more personalised coaching was available for those keen and committed athletes, getting to choose their preferences for training. We are looking to continue this personalised service where possible in early 2019, with a training schedule to be published early January and the opportunity to request additional event areas to be added.Little Athletics training will return on January 23rd in 2019 for all u9-u16 athletes, with 8 weeks of training that will continue athletes fundamental skill development, as well as assist the physiological and psychological preparation for competition opportunities such as the State Combined Event Champs (2-3rd Feb), EMR which everyone is encouraged to participate in (16-17th Feb) and State Championships (16-17th March) . The year 5-7 program will run exclusively on Sundays and will commence on January 20th (more info on the website). The holiday period ahead is a time for family. A special time each year, centred around Christmas and celebrations of the new year and new beginnings. From all the coaches at BHLAC, we hope that your holidays are full of physical activity, play and all sorts of games, whether in the backyard, park or at the beach. In our educated opinion, games come first! The benefit we all receive through incidental activity and a fun games based approach is multi faceted and the building blocks of enjoyment, longevity in sport as well as future performance based outcomes. For anyone who finds themselves with energy to burn and no group or partner to kick a ball around, play 40/40, throw the frisbee or play kiss chasey with (is that still a thing?), we have put together a more structured (but chop and change as you wish) training/exercise routine that is appropriate for the whole family (even our elite athletes do this on their holidays). It combines a variety of easy-to-challenging exercises that require nothing but yourself to do, along with a couple of simple running sessions to give you a starting point. If you master this before training recommences on the 23rd Jan, just give us a call and we can give you more suggestions. We wish you the very best for a relaxing, yet vibrant and energetic time with family and friends over the holiday period and can’t wait to see you all return in the new year for more fun and challenging training sessions each Wednesday night.Merry Christmas,Steve Cain & the Box Hill Little Aths Coaching Team
